Sun Conure Appearance

Sun Conures are famous for their stunning plumage, featuring a mix of bright yellow, orange, red, green, and blue feathers. Their black beaks and white eye rings add to their striking look. They typically grow to 12 inches (30 cm) in length and weigh around 100–130 grams.

Sun Conure Lifespan

With proper care, a healthy Sun Conure can live between 20–30 years, making them a long-term commitment for bird enthusiasts.

Sun Conure Diet

A balanced Sun Conure diet should include:

  • High-quality pellets (main food source)
  • Fresh fruits (mango, papaya, apples, bananas, berries)
  • Vegetables (bell peppers, carrots, sweet potatoes, leafy greens)
  • Nuts and seeds (offered in moderation)
  • Fresh water daily

Avoid avocado, chocolate, caffeine, onions, and salty or sugary foods, as they can be toxic.

Sun Conure Talking & Vocalization

While Sun Conures are not the best talkers, they can learn a few words and short phrases. However, they are extremely loud and known for their high-pitched screams, which they use for communication and attention-seeking.

Sun Conure Care & Cage Setup

  • Cage size: Minimum 24x24x30 inches, with horizontal bars for climbing.
  • Toys & Enrichment: Provide chew toys, swings, ropes, and puzzle feeders to prevent boredom.
  • Socialization: Requires at least 2–3 hours of daily interaction to stay happy.
  • Bathing: Offer a shallow water dish or misting spray for feather care.

Sun Conure Behavior & Personality

Sun Conures are highly energetic, playful, and affectionate birds that bond deeply with their owners. They enjoy:

  • Cuddling and head scratches
  • Playing with toys and solving puzzles
  • Flying around and exploring their surroundings
  • Loud vocalizations, especially when excited or seeking attention

Due to their strong attachment to humans, they can develop separation anxiety, leading to excessive calling or feather plucking if left alone too long.
